London Buses route 261

London Buses route 261 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Princess Royal University Hospital and Lewisham station, it is operated by Stagecoach London.
==History==
Route 261 commenced operating on 4 September 1982 between Orpington and Brockley Rise via Farnborough, Bromley, Grove Park and Lewisham replacing parts of routes 47, 51, 94 and 229 with AEC Routemasters out of Bromley garage.
On 23 April 1983, it was converted to single deck, one man operation with Leyland Nationals. It reverted to double deck operation on 27 April 1985 with Leyland Titans. On the same date, the Lewisham to Brockley Rise section was withdrawn. On 16 August 1986, the Orpington to Bromley garage section was withdrawn.
Upon being put up for tender, route 261 passed to Metrobus' Orpington garage on 21 November 1987. It was extended to Green Street Green on 13 May 1989, this was withdrawn on 7 October 2000.
Upon being re-tendered, the route was retained by Metrobus with a new contract commencing on 2 December 2006.〔(Bus tender results Route 261 ) Transport for London 18 May 2006〕 It was extended to Locksbottom on 24 February 2007.
When next tendered, it passed to Stagecoach London's Bromley Bus Garage on 30 November 2013 with Alexander Dennis Enviro 400s introduced.〔(Bus tender results Route 261 ) Transport for London 12 April 2013〕〔(Tender News ) ''BusTalk'' (Go-Ahead London) issue 22 June 2013〕
